MIDSUMMER CUSHIONS – 10th July 2015

The children commemorate the life of John Clare by laying floral ‘cushions’ around his grave and the winners of teh John Clare Society’s poetry competition are announced.

WORLD BOOK DAY – 5th March 2015

The children and staff surpassed themselves this year with their fantastic costumes.  After assembly the children visited different classrooms to share their favourite books.

 

 

POETS VISIT JOHN CLARE PRIMARY – 11th November 2014

Torpel and Broadwheel were visited by Bill Taylor, Stamford Poet Laureate, and Joe Houghton.  Their visit inspired the children to write their own poems.

TORPEL RESIDENTIAL TO LONDON – 11th-12th June 2014

Torpel had an exciting two days in London visiting museums and galleries.  They also went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and slept on HMS Belfast.

SCHOOL COUNCIL CAKE SALE – 16th May 2014

School Council held a cake sale to raise funds to support Krystina.  Krystina lives in Chernobyl and comes to visit Helpston every year.

WAR OF THE ROSES – 24th April 2014

Broadwheel re-enacted the War of the Roses to start their new topic on the Tudors.  The class were divided into the two opposing houses and battle commenced. The House of York started the battle feeling very confident but this soon changed.

TORPEL’S GREEK TAVERNA – 24th April 2014

Torpel decided to end their Ancient Greece topic by opening their own Greek Taverna.  All of the children were involved in planning, preparing and cooking the food.  The menu consisted of flat breads, olive and non olive bread, rosemary roast lamb, pork souvlaki, halloumi and vegetable kebabs, roast vegetable moussaka, tzatziki, greek salad with and without feta, stuffed vine leaves, olives, watermelon and caramel oranges. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially being able to eat outside in the glorious sunshine – just like being in Greece.

A number of Year 6 children planned, prepared, cooked and served a three course dinner for their families.  The children cooked for 28 people and there were lots of clean plates.

BROADWHEEL VISIT FLAG FEN 23rd May 2013

Broadwheel class visited Flag Fen to learn about being archaeologists. They had to dig through Victorian remains to discover a mosaic floor from a Roman villa.

BUSY BEE DAY 23rd May 2013

Everyone in school dressed as a pollinator or in bright colours to raise funds to buy plants for our nature zone.  We all had a fantastic day and Buttercross children enjoyed filling up the tyres in preparation for our new plants.

TRADITIONAL GAMES DAY 19th March 2013

We hosted a traditional games day planned by the Rose of the Shires Trust and invited children from Northborough Primary and Peakirk-cum-Glinton Primary to join us.
