Sports

Our class teachers work closely with Total Sports to deliver high quality Physical Education (PE) sessions for our children in line with the National Curriculum. PE sessions are designed to teach children the skills, knowledge and understanding of sports offered and how to apply them into match and competitive situations. Sessions are progressive, evolving with the children’s individual abilities, catering for all levels.

During the last week of each half term, the children have the opportunity to participate in intra-class competitions with the winning class earning points to add to a yearly, rolling total, with champions crowned at the end of each school year. Individual awards are presented termly for children who demonstrate Olympic values and sportsmanship throughout the term. These children become our ‘Total Champions’.

Each half term the Olympic Values Trophy is awarded to the class that consistently shows courage, strives for excellence, recognises equality, demonstrates respect, friends and determination and inspires each other to achieve. The trophy is passed on like the Olympic torch from winner to winner.

Children are encouraged to interact with coaches and staff, offering their own ideas and asking questions to ensuure they are getting the most from each session.

Children are taught how to deliver warm-ups and cool-downs. Once they are comfortable and confident, they are given the opportunity to lead these for the rest of the class.

We compete regularly at local competitions against other schools to give our children the opportunity to compete. Due to the commitment from our children with their PE sessions, we have become very successful as a school with outstanding results in sport and a reputation for fair play.
