Finally, the weather complied and we had a wonderful Sports Day today. It is so important for us to ensure that Sports Day is as fun and inclusive for all as possible. We are so proud of all of the children for striving for their personal bests and to ‘Keats’, our winning house team!
A huge thank you to Friends of John Clare School and our Ground Force Team who have spent all day on Sunday cleaning, scrubbing, weeding, painting, tidying and just generally being brilliant to get our school and grounds looking as good as they possibly can. We appreciate you all!
Following our inspection on 21st April 2026, Ofsted has recognised our school as ‘Strong’ in all categories. This wonderful achievement reflects our commitment to consistently perform above the standard expectation across all aspects of school life. We are so very proud of this outcome. It reflects the closeness of our entire school community and the ambition and confidence of your children.
School Council have been working with Mrs Nicolson to redesign our library area. They chose a woodland forest theme as they know that being in nature and reading are both good for mental health. The children say that being in the new library is like being in their very own magical book setting!

Yesterday, we took every child in KS2 to see Starlight Express at Wembley theatre. We had an absolutely fantastic time! The children behaved so well, with many members of the public approaching us to say how wonderful they were. The show was brilliant and full of energy, and the children were in awe of all of the colours, sounds and special effects. We are so proud to be able to take the children for this important experience, and feel doubly lucky that we were able to see the performance before it closes in early May!
We are thrilled to announce that our Year 5 children have successfully completed their Bikeability training this week! The children have worked hard to learn the road safety rules and navigate the busy roads (and railway crossing) of Helpston! Well done Year 5!
Year 5 had a brilliant visit to the Astra Zencca Inspiration Lab in Cambridge yesterday. The children were immersed in real, hands-on science activities, and had a guided walk through the Discovery Centre, observing researchers and scientists at work.
