Mental Health Support
Good mental health and wellbeing helps children thrive and achieve, and at John Clare we are committed to supporting our children and staff. In schools, good mental health is linked to improved focus and learning and helps children build confidence, resilience and reduce anxiety.
At John Clare Primary School, we work in partnership with the Peterborough Mental Health Support Team (MHST), a NHS national initiative. The MHST provides individual and group intervention for young people and families with mild to moderate mental health concerns. They also work with us to promote a whole-school approach to continue to improve the mental health and wellbeing of our whole organisation and staff.
CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) are an NHS funded service which provides specialist care for children and young people with moderate to severe mental health issues. All referrals to CAMHS go through YOUnited , with the hub accepting referrals from all professionals (e.g. schools, GPs etc) working with children and young people aged 5-17 with emotional wellbeing and mental health needs.
Mrs Nicolson is our Mental Health Lead in school. Please do contact her, or your child's class teacher, at the earliest opportunity if you have any worries or concerns about your child's mental health and wellbeing. If a young person is in a mental health crisis, please contact NHS 111 (mental health option).
